Man Utd enquire about signing Timo Werner

Manchester United have reportedly enquired about Timo Werner as Erik Ten Hag targets the German International to help bolster United’s struggling attack.

The Red Devils are desperate to recoup an experienced striker in the winter transfer window to help relieve the pressure from Rasmus Hojlund who is yet to score in the Premier League. Hence, United have made an enquiry about former Chelsea striker, Werner as a possible addition to add firepower to United’s attack.

German journalist, Florian Plettenberg claims that Werner is on United’s list. Although no offer or negotiations has begun, the Red Devils have already made enquiries about the striker.

The 27-year-old is reported to be dissatisfied with his situation in Leipzig, but he could stay until the end of the season. Werner is currently behind in the pecking order as Marco Ross prefers Loïs Openda as his first-choice striker.

Chance for redemption?

United’s frontline has been underwhelming so far this season. Before the win over Everton, United’s attack collectively contributed to just one goal in the Premier League.

After the win over The Toffees, goals from Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, increased the attack tally to four goals which is much lower judging by their qualities.

United are hoping Werner would help bring consistency having previously played in the Premier League for Chelsea.

However, it is important to note that Werner significantly struggled during his time at Chelsea and did not really get to hit the ground running.

Having scored over 100 goals to become Leipzig’s all-time scorer, there were high expectations that Werner would be Chelsea’s talisman for years to come. On the contrary, the German International could only record 23 goals in 89 matches for the Blues.

It is widely believed that playing under the tutelage of Ten Hag is entirely different as the Dutchman is renowned for developing and nurturing players to discover and rediscover their form.
