Oliver Holt aims dig at Mikel Arteta after Tottenham post-match press conference

Five issues Ange Postecoglou must fix at Tottenham

Oliver Holt was impressed with Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou who took the defeat against Chelsea graciously, and has fired a shot at Mikel Arteta who harshly criticised VAR and referees after Arsenal lost 1-0 against Newcastle.

In a chaotic game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night, where five goals were disallowed and two red cards were shown, Postecoglou could have vented his frustration on the referee after his side lost 4-1, but he refused to do so.

The Spurs boss said after the game that “we’ve got to accept the referee’s decision”. The Daily Mail journalist reacted to the footage of the interview shared by NBC Sports Soccer, and wrote on social media platform X that Postecoglou’s reaction comes in sharp contrast to how Arteta reacted.

The Arsenal boss vented his frustration after the game and called the VAR and the referees an “absolute disgrace”. Holt described Arteta as “petulant”.

Holt wrote on X: “Postecoglou’s reaction tonight to decisions that went against him was a striking contrast to Arteta’s on Saturday. Arteta behaved like a petulant, over-entitled child. Postecoglou behaved like an intelligent, reflective leader. I know which of them I’d want in charge of my club.”

Arteta and Arsenal may have taken it too far with their strong criticisms. The Gunners were pretty ordinary against the Magpies and this could be a ploy from Arteta to divert the attention.

Spurs meanwhile started brilliantly against Chelsea but they lost composure at the back. Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie both were sent off during the game, but they continued playing the high line. Eventually, they paid the price with Nicolas Jackson scoring a hat-trick for the Blues.
