Paul Merson reacts after Tottenham suffer defeat v Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League after they lost 2-1 against Wolves on Saturday (11 November) away from home.

Paul Merson predicted ahead of the game that he will be “shocked” if Spurs manage to win today, and took to X after the game to share his reaction.

He wrote: “Not again Spurs”.

Ange Postecoglou’s side took an early lead through Brennan Johnson but they conceded two goals in stoppage time. The north London club lost 4-1 against Chelsea last week, and Postecoglou won’t be pleased with this result either.

Poor from Tottenham

Spurs were missing several key players through injuries and suspension, especially at the back, but they have been very poor upfront as well.

In the second half, they were pretty flat and didn’t offer anything. Wolves created loads of chances and on one or two occasions they really came close to finding an equaliser.

Eventually, Pablo Sarabia found the equaliser with a stunning finish in the 91st minute. Mario Lemina then netted the winner in the seventh minute of additional time at Molineux as Wolves came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory.

Eric Dier who made his first start of the season failed to exude confidence at the back. Partnering alongside Ben Davies, who returned after an ankle injury, both were unable to maintain their defensive strength for the whole game.

Wolves registered as many as 17 shots during the game and they were the better side of the two. Postecoglou will be really disappointed with the manner by which they have conceded the second goal, but he should be more worried by his side’s lack of potency in the final third.
