Scott Wright scored for Rangers in their 3-1 win against Hearts in the ViaPlay Cup on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, they took the lead through James Tavernier. The Gers skipper scored again in the 64th minute to give Rangers a handsome 3-0 lead.
Lawrence Shankland netted in the 81st minute for Hearts but it was just a consolation.
Philippe Clement surprised everyone when he took Todd Cantwell off at the break and brought on Wright.
Wright has managed only three starts in the Scottish Premiership this season, and his inclusion in such a big game came as a surprise.
However, the decision was vindicated as Wright scored the second goal of the game. He later shared what Clement told him at half-time.
“The manager gave me a quick heads-up before the end of the first half that he wanted to put me on,” said Wright, as quoted by the Daily Record (page 41).
“I just wanted to bring creativity to the game and try to have an impact. He (Clement) has come in and been clear with what he wants and what he wants to change.
“He is drip-feeding it in just now, as he doesn’t want to change too much just yet. But you can see the changes he wants to make out on the pitch and what he wants to do.”
Clement makes a positive impact
Clement has made a positive impact on the side already.
Rangers have now recorded three wins in a row, and the Belgium boss will be eyeing his first silverware at Ibrox.
They will face Aberdeen in the final at Hampden Park and there’s no reason why they can’t land a trophy.
Rangers are a massive club in Scotland and they should be aiming to win all the competitions they are in, and Wright shares the same mentality.
One of the best ways to win the fans is by winning trophies, and Rangers now have a big opportunity to win the ViaPlay Cup.
