Tony Cascarino thinks Aston Villa could pip Tottenham Hotspur and get into the Premier League top four this season.
Villa are currently fifth in the Premier League table, just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur who are in fourth.
Cascarino said on The Times podcast, that Spurs are in “danger” at the moment following the injury to Micky van de Ven.
On the other hand, Villa Park is rocking at the moment after Unai Emery’s side has picked up 13 wins in a row on home turf.
Both Spurs and Villa have made a strong start to the season, and there’s very little to choose from these two sides. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
“Aston Villa can break into that group. I think Tottenham’s injury issues are a real problem for them, as all their fans were pointing out during their great start,” said Cascarino.
“Micky van de Ven has had an operation on his hamstring and that makes it a really bad injury — that will keep him out for a few months. So that puts Tottenham in danger and Villa, with this home form, can put a run together. Emery has got Villa Park rocking.”
Can Villa get into the top four?
Spurs were leading the table only a couple of weeks back. However, they have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League defeats, against Chelsea and Wolves.
As a result, the north London club have dropped to fourth in the table. However, these are early days and there are plenty of games left to be played.
Spurs have progressed a lot under Ange Postecoglou and they are highly likely to get back to winning ways after the international break. The loss of Van de Ven is a big blow, but they have players to fill the void.
It is hard to predict who will get into the top four at the moment after only 12 games. Even the likes of Newcastle United or Manchester United can put on a good run of form and challenge for the top four in the next few months.
