UK media drools over Everton defender Nathan Patterson

Scotland earned a 2-2 draw in Euro 2024 qualifying match away to Georgia on Thursday (16 November) where Everton defender Nathan Patterson produced a brilliant performance.

UK newspaper, the Daily Record (16 November, page 50) shared ratings of all the Scottish players and they gave the Toffees fullback a 7/10 rating for his performance.

The 22-year-old full-back was praised by the newspaper despite the fact he was “unlucky” to have received a booking early on.

But that didn’t prevent him from joining the attack, and he became a “danger” for the opponent as the game passed on.

“Unlucky with early booking but didn’t stop him forging forward, delivering danger into the box. Couldn’t stop Kvaratskhelia at the second,” wrote Daily Record.

Brilliant for Everton

Patterson has been brilliant for Everton this season.

Since joining from Rangers a couple of years back, the highly-rated full-back has badly struggled with injuries. Also, with the Toffees struggling badly last season, Patterson’s performances didn’t get noticed.

This season, the Toffees are doing well under Sean Dyche, and Patterson is getting the limelight he truly deserves. The injury to Seamus Coleman at the start of the season has opened the door for him to make an impact.

He has made 11 appearances in the Premier League so far and registered one assist. Patterson loves to join the attack and he is very good with his crossing abilities.

At the same time, he is solid at the back. For the Toffees, he makes 1.6 tackles per game, as per whoscored.

Probably, he would have made a better impact by playing for a team where he is given license to play aggressively, a role enjoyed by Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.
