Unai Emery raves about Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn

Unai Emery has showered praise on Aston Villa captain Jon McGinn after the Villans won 3-1 against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday (12 November).

The 29-year-old midfielder scored the second goal of the game with a cracking finish as Villa maintained their impressive form at Villa Park.

Villa have picked up their 13th straight win at home and they have now closed the gap with fourth-placed Tottenham at the top.

McGinn scored a fantastic goal and could have added another assist in the second half, had Ollie Watkins diverted his delivery onto the net.

Emery was full of praise for his skipper and hailed him as a “fantastic” player. He adds that McGinn has got loads of energy and he is very consistent. At the same time, the Villa midfielder is “very demanding” as well.

“He is himself very demanding. He is competitive and is always ready to play, physically as well. When he is not training and not playing he is resting, but his energy is always full! He is a very good example. He is consistent and is trying to help and to be with us being a good example for other players,” said Emery, as quoted by Birmingham Mail.

“I appreciate as a person how he is and as a professional he is fantastic. His connection here, his commitment here for a long time for the supporters, Aston Villa and the project, he was coming here in the Championship. He is a player who I really appreciate and I really need to be an example for others.”

Impressive Villa

The Villa Park is buzzing at the moment and what fantastic work Emery has done at the club. They are fifth in the league table with just one point behind Spurs who were leading the table only a few weeks ago.

In terms of squad depth and strength, Villa do not come close to the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, but they are punching above the weights. What has been really impressive is how Emery has been able to make Villa Park a fortress again.

It is always a healthy sign to pick up wins at home, and Villa are doing everything right at the moment to push for a top-four finish, something probably they wouldn’t have thought at the start of the season.
