West Ham striker Michail Antonio could be out for two to three weeks, according to David Ornstein.
The Hammers striker suffered a knee injury while playing for Jamaica against Canada on Saturday.
The Athletic journalist claims that while the injury is not as serious as it initially feared, the 33-year-old is not expected to return within this month.
Initially, it was thought that he may have ruptured his ligament but scan reports suggest that he is likely to be out for two to three weeks only.
West Ham didn’t sign a striker during the summer transfer window despite offloading Gianluca Scamacca. They are heavily reliant on Antonio who has appeared in all 12 Premier League matches so far, starting in 11 of them.
Must sign striker in January
The loss of Antonio has come as a big blow for the Hammers and they must sign a new striker in the January transfer window.
The London outfit have struggled in the Premier League so far and their form hasn’t been consistent as expected. It will be interesting to see how they cope in the absence of Antonio.
It is also high time for Danny Ings to step up. Ings joined the Hammers from Aston Villa in the January transfer window, and he has yet to make any positive impact.
We all know that Ings is a natural goalscorer and the time is right for David Moyes to use him properly.
Alternatively, Moyes has used Jarrod Bowen as well previously in the number nine role, and the England international could be asked to lead the line again. Divin Mubama remains another option for Moyes in the forward department.
