Liverpool came from behind to secure a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Saturday (9 December).
After a dull first half, Palace took the lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta who scored from the spot after a delayed and lengthy check from VAR.
The momentum of the game shifted drastically when Jordan Ayew picked up a red card for receiving two yellows. Moments later, Mohamed Salah scored to restore parity.
In the 90th minute, Harvey Elliott scored a spectacular goal to earn all three points for the Reds.
Alan Shearer was so impressed with the youngster, and he hailed the goal as “magnificent”. He took to X to share his reaction, and wrote, “Magnificent goal from Harvey Elliott.”

Big win
Liverpool were really struggling to get the breakthrough as Palace’s defence stayed focussed and resolute. They created some fantastic opportunities and Allison needed to make two big saves during the game.
However, the dismissal of Ayew changed everything. Palace looked disjointed, and Liverpool made the best use of the numerical advantage.
Salah scored immediately after Ayew’s dismissal, and that gave the Reds an extra injection of belief that were probably lacking. The Egyptian has now scored 150 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League and 200 total in all competitions.
He has scored more goals than Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen and Kenny Dalglish – the legends of this iconic club.
The substitutes have made a big difference in this game. The likes of Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate and Elliott made a massive impact after coming on. Elliott, especially, moved into pockets and was heavily involved in the link-up play in and around the box.
He picked up the ball from Salah from the left and darted close to the box. He had the option to pass it down to other teammates but found space to shoot from a distance, and he did with it great accuracy. It was a superb goal from him and a big win for the Reds as well.
