Alan Shearer has shared an instant reaction after Newcastle United lost 3-1 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Boxing Day.
The Magpies opened the scoring through Alexander Isak at St James’ Park but a rejuvenated Forest side came from behind to snatch a memorable victory.
Shearer wrote on X: “Brilliant Forest. Shocking Newcastle.”
Newcastle traditionally are not amongst those who win matches on Boxing Day. As per Opta stat, 47 – the Magpies have lost the most matches on Boxing Day of any side in English league history (47). But this is now getting serious for Eddie Howe’s side, and he will badly look forward to the winter transfer market.
Chris Wood scored a hat-trick on his return to St James’ Park as Forest moved to 16th in the league table above Everton who have a game in hand.
Poor from the Magpies
It is a first win for new Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo while the Magpies have suffered six defeats in their last seven games in all competitions.
It felt like they were toothless in the middle of the park in the absence of a proper central defensive midfielder, and lacked ideas once Forest started to disrupt them with counter-attacking football.
The Magpies have played some outstanding football under Howe, but at the moment, it seems like they are running out of ideas.
Newcastle have missed a host of key players this season through injuries and suspension, and the squad has been left with bare bones. It has reached a point where the players are struggling to lift themselves up and it’s hard to see how they will cope up during this busy festive period with hardly enough time to recover.
It has been a shocking performance from Newcastle and it’s disappointing to see them losing games at home where they are tough to beat.
