Amadou Onana would be fantastic signing for Manchester United

Manchester United are badly struggling at the moment, and Erik ten Hag needs support. The Red Devils need to delve into the transfer market in January, and they could look to sign a quality midfielder.

They have indicated interest in Everton’s midfielder, Amadou Onana, according to Footmercato, and he would be a cracking signing for the club.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom from his debut with Hamburg in the German second division to his popular spell with Ligue 1 outfit, LOSC Lille which eventually earned him a transfer to Everton. This season, Onana has been a pivotal member of Sean Dyche’s team who have been impressive despite a 10-point deduction.

United are keenly monitoring his performances for the Toffees with the possibility of recouping the Belgian International to Old Trafford

Along with United, Barcelona are also interested in Onana and have already established contacts with the player’s representative in a bid to secure a transfer ahead of other rivals.

Onana has a contract at Goodison Park that keeps him until 2027, and reports reveal that a fee over £44m could seal a deal as the Toffees are in no hurry to sell.

Manchester United have endured a difficult first half of the season. From off-pitch issues relating to the club sale, to on-pitch issues which saw United being knocked out of the Champions League and European competitions entirely.

They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United. Although their League position might be flattering, their performances have been far from impressive.

This has put Ten Hag under increasing pressure and is keen on adding reinforcement to his squad, particularly in midfield.

Onana is precisely the archetypical player Ten Hag needs in midfield as his combativeness and rigidity in midfield would provide attacking players like Bruno Fernandes the much-needed freedom and security to operate in attacking areas without having to drop back.

With Casemiro’s fitness concerns and uncertainties surrounding Sofyan Amrabat’s permanent move, it is pertinent that United move for Onana this winter as they desperately need reinforcement in the middle of the park.

Everton probably would resist the idea of losing Onana as they have a survival battle on their hands, but a big offer can change everything.
