Arsenal set sight on Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez

Arsenal have earmarked Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez over a future transfer as they hope to salvage their goalscoring problems, according to a report from CBS Sports.

The Argentina International is in prolific form this season, leading the Capocannoniere charge with 15 goals in 16 Serie A appearances and 17 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions for Simone Inzaghi’s side this season.

Arsenal have lacked firepower upfront, reminiscent of their 2-0 loss to West Ham United, where The Gunners created a flurry of chances without a clinical edge to put the ball at the back of the net.

The Gunners centre-forwards have been porous most times this season, with Eddie Nketiah scoring just five goals in 18 League appearances while Gabriel Jesus has only scored three goals in the League.

Summer signing, Kai Havertz has scored four goals after a disastrous start to the season with all combining for 12 goals, three goals lesser than Martinez’s goals this season with CBS Sports reporting that Martinez is now on the rather of Arsenal.

The link to Arsenal doesn’t come as a surprise as Mikel Arteta is desperately in need of a prolific striker which seems to be the only missing piece in the puzzle to complete Arsenal’s rebuild.

The 26-year-old is contracted at the San Siro until June 2026 with a £95m valuation by Transfermarkt.

Prolific forward

While having multiple centre-forwards holds its advantages, having a standout performer is crucial, and Lautaro Martinez, expressing readiness to extend his Inter contract, is currently showcasing the peak of his abilities.

Since his 2018 transfer from Racing, the Argentine striker has consistently delivered goals, reaching double figures in the last four seasons and surpassing 20 in the past two.

In the current season, Martinez has already netted 15 times in Serie A across 16 games, adding two more in the UEFA Champions League. Notably, his synergy with Thuram has evolved into a telepathic connection, propelling Lautaro to the top of the Serie A scoring charts.

Martinez’s potential addition to Arsenal’s attack could unlock Gabriel Jesus who thrives more in linking up with a target man upfront.

A move for Martinez is unlikely this winter and it remains to be seen if Arsenal will return for the striker next summer amid contract renewal talks with Inter.
