Bayern Munich ready to move for Man Utd defender Rapahel Varane

Bayern Munich are ready to make a move for Manchester United defender Rapahel Varane, according to a report from Spanish media outlet Sport

The French defender has struggled under Erik ten Hag and his future has come under doubt. Real Madrid are also keen to get his signature.

The report claims that Bayern are ready to submit £17m to sign Varane. He has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and the Red Devils haven’t decided whether they will offer the 30-year-old a new deal at the club.

In recent weeks, Varane has lost his starting role to Harry Maguire while Ten Hag has used veteran Jonny Evans at times ahead of him.

Bayern will miss the services of Kim Min-jae and Noussair Mazraoui next month, both will head off to international duties.

Should United accept an offer for Varane?

Varane joined United after a trophy-laden career with Real Madrid. It felt like he was hungry to win move titles with United, but that hasn’t been the case for the Frenchman.

He was arguably one of the world’s best defenders when he was at Madrid. His alarming drop in quality has stunned everyone and even the staunchest United fans will agree that he doesn’t deserve to start games based on merit.

During his time at Madrid, what set him apart from others was his pace. However, with age, he has lost yards of pace, and there is a belief that he is now struggling to cope with the pacey nature of the Premier League.

At the same time, it is also painful to see that Varane is making basic mistakes. His anticipations are poor. At times, he is struggling to make simple passes which was unthinkable only a few years back, and his positional awareness has been atrocious, leading to basic errors.

It is probably high time for United to cash in on him.
