Brentford are evaluating the possibility of securing American striker Brandon Vazquez in the upcoming January transfer window, as per TeamTalk.
The 25-year-old predominantly plays as a centre-forward and has been in surging form for FC Cincinnati who are leading the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference. His performances has caught the eye of various clubs across Spain, Germany, and France who have all been tracking his progress in the MLS.
The Bees are under much criticism over Ivan Toney’s imminent return from a lengthy ban in January, as well as Arsenal’s increasing interest in the striker. Hence, Thomas Frank’s side are in search of a new talisman up front. However, talks of selling Toney this winter are played down as Brentford are hoping to renew his contract amid interest from a host of clubs including Arsenal.
Recent reports from The Telegraph indicate that Brentford are looking to add a new striker to their ranks even if Toney remains at the club at the end of his ban, with United States International, Vazquez among the strikers under consideration.
Brentford eye clinical striker
With Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Brentford are eyeing reinforcements for their attack.
Currently playing for FC Cincinnati in the MLS, Vazquez has showcased his goal-scoring prowess with 36 goals in the past two seasons.
Vazquez suits Thomas Frank’s preferred style of using a targe-mam upfront, as Vazquez possesses an immense work ethic, clinical finishing, and ability to find spaces in the penalty area. Standing over 6ft 1in, Vazquez shares similarities with current Brentford striker Toney, particularly in winning aerial duels.
After missing out on the USMNT squad in Qatar, the 25-year-old has broken into the team with four goals in eight appearances for the national team.
With several injuries to Brsntford’s ranks, the club is believed to be exploring a potential January deal to strengthen their squad as they eye a comfortable League finish. Brentford travel to The Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City and will hope to extend their winning streak against the Cityzens after back-to-back wins last season.
