Callum Davidson raves about Celtic player Matt O’Riley in win v St Johnstone

Celtic came from behind to secure a 3-1 win against St Johnstone away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (3 December).

The Bhoys struggled in the first half and went a goal down at the break. Callum McGregor restored parity after half-time as the Hoops grew in confidence.

Former St Johnstone manager, Callum Davidson, showered praise on Matt O’Riley after he scored a stunning goal, which can be easily be considered as one of the goals of the season.

O’Riley picked up from a lay-off from Kyogo and then produced a thunderbolt shot into the top corner from 20 yards.

Davidson said on BBC Sportsound, as relayed by BBC Sports: “I don’t think you’re going to see a better goal than that all season. Wow!”

A game of two halves

In the first half, the Bhoys conceded once again from a corner and it is becoming a headache for Brendan Rodgers. Chris Sutton rightly points out that opposition teams are targeting Joe Hart, and they are reaping benefits.

Celtic were too slow and lethargic, but in the second half, they were superb. McGregor scored a brilliant goal before O’Riley netted to put Celtic ahead.

In the end, James Forrest added another to put the icing on the cake. Hart produced a great save in the end to deny Jay Turner-Cooke.

The scoreline appears too harsh for St Johnstone in the end. They matched Celtic toe-to-toe for the major part of the game, but Celtic were able to pick up all three points, thanks to some individual brilliance.

After a disappointing midweek in the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers could not have asked for a better reply.
