Ed Aarons: Newcastle keen to sign Serhou Guirassy in January

Four issues Eddie Howe must fix at Newcastle

Newcastle United are looking to bolster their forward department in the January transfer window, and they have earmarked Serhou Guirassy as a potential option, as per Ed Aarons of The Guardian

The Magpies are struggling with loads of injuries at the moment, and they need more firepower in their attacking department to challenge for the top-four spot.

The 27-year-old striker is on Newcastle’s short-list in the January window, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his attacking options.

Newcastle are likely to face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United. Guirassy has been in tremendous form this season and has scored 16 goals already in all competitions.

He is available for a cut-price €17.5m (£15.1m) because of a release clause included in his contract when he joined from Rennes. It shouldn’t be a big problem to meet the amount if they at all want to pursue the deal.

Fine addition?

The Guinea striker joined Rennes last season on loan and made a big impact in Germany. He scored 14 goals last term.

This season, he has taken his game to a different level, registering 15 goals in the Bundesliga, the second top-scorer in the league behind Harry Kane who is on 18 goals.

Newcastle are missing Callum Wilson at the moment with a thigh injury. The likes of Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock are also missing with injuries, and Howe feels another striker in January will give them extra force for the rest of the season.

The player harbors the desire to play in the Premier League, and Newcastle can definitely match his transfer fee, wages and ambitions, if they want to bring him to St James’ Park.
