We are almost into the January transfer window and the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United could be among clubs that could look to reinforce their squad with new signings.
Here are eight transfer targets who could be on the radar of Premier League teams next month.
Serhou Guirassy – Stuttgart
The Guinean star has been a revelation for Stuttgart this term with 19 goals from just 16 appearances. He has a release clause of only €17.5 million in his current deal and could leave at the turn of the year.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with him, but the 27-year-old seems to prefer a move to the latter. A deal may need to happen early with Guirassy due to feature at the African Cup of Nations from mid-January.
Kalvin Phillips – Manchester City
The England international has endured a difficult spell with the Cityzens since his move from Leeds United last year. He has been a fringe player with Rodri being the undisputed starter in defensive midfield.
Even when Rodri has been injured, Pep Guardiola has preferred Manuel Akanji and Matheus Nunes in the role. Phillips is likely to move on. Newcastle United could look into a loan deal with Sandro Tonali serving a long-term ban.
Goncalo Inacio – Sporting Lisbon
The Portuguese centre-back was on the radar of Manchester United last summer but no proposal was made. He eventually signed a long-term deal which increased his release clause from €45m to €60m.
For January, Liverpool and Arsenal seem as the potential destinations for the left-footed star. The Reds are eyeing cover for the injured Joel Matip while the Gunners want to add more quality and depth into their squad.
Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting Lisbon
Sporting are having a fantastic campaign in the Primeira Liga. Gyokeres has been a key reason behind their success. He has registered 17 goals and provided eight assists from just 20 appearances for the club.
The Swede’s form has caught the eye of Arsenal and Chelsea, but he won’t come on the cheap. Sporting are quite clear that they won’t sell him unless the €100m release clause in his contract is triggered.
Santiago Gimenez – Feyenoord
A third striker on our list is Gimenez. The Mexican has been a revelation for the Eredivisie champions since his move from Cruz Azul. He netted 28 goals from 50 appearances in all competitions last term.
This campaign, he has notched up 20 goals from just 22 outings. The 22-year-old is currently valued at €50m by Transfermarkt. Arsenal and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in signing him.
Ivan Toney – Brentford
Toney is another striker who has been linked with both the Blues and Gunners. The 27-year-old netted 20 goals in the Premier League last season before being banned for eight months for breaching FA betting rules.
He will be available to play again after January 17 and the Gunners are deemed front-runners to land the England international. Toney is said to prefer the opportunity to win the league with Mikel Arteta’s side.
Andre Trindade – Fluminense
Andre was linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer but Fluminense declined to sell him. They wanted to keep him for the knock out stage of the Copa Libertadores. They went on to win the competition against Boca Juniors.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could return for the Brazilian next month. Wataru Endo has done a good job in the defensive midfield position, but the manager may want to reinforce the department for a strong push for the Premier League title.
Lloyd Kelly – Bournemouth
The 25-year-old has been a key player for the Cherries in the central defensive department. He has had an injury-plagued season, but this has not stopped him from being linked with a move to a top Premier League club this winter.
Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new centre-back in January and Kelly could be an option for them. Liverpool could also enter the race. They may prefer someone with English top-flight experience to fill the void left by Matip’s injury.
