Hugo Lloris: Verbal agreement reached for Tottenham goalkeeper

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and former captain, Hugo Lloris is set to join MLS side, Los Angeles FC on a permanent deal, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Lloris will bring an 11-year stint with Tottenham to an end as the 37-year-old will sign a one-year deal with an option to extend after “verbal agreements” were made between all parties.

The former France International and captain is entering the final six months of his contract which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Lloris is yet to feature in any matchday squad this season and has not manned the post since the bizarre 6-1 loss to Newcastle United in April. He is currently behind first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster in the pecking order

Having been left out of Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, Lloris expressed a desire to end his over a decade spell with the club but a move failed to materialize last summer.

He is set to leave the club on a free transfer in January. Romano says that documents are being prepared at the moment.

“Hugo Lloris to LAFC, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between all parties — told it’s permanent deal for Lloris who’s leaving Spurs after 11 years,” wrote Romano. “Understand Lloris will sign one year deal at LAFC plus options to extend for next years. Documents ready soon.”

Farewell

Since his £11 million transfer from Lyon in 2012, Lloris has emerged as a key figure at Spurs making 447 appearances since then and claiming the captain’s armband in 2015 while securing 151 clean sheets in the process

Despite his role in reaching the 2019 Champions League final, the veteran goalkeeper Cup has yet to secure silverware with the Lilywhites.

Following the loss of captaincy post Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at Tottenham, the seasoned goalkeeper explored an exit in the summer, engaging in discussions with Serie A’s Lazio. Despite talks, a move to Italy did not go through.

Now, there are advanced negotiations between the goalkeeper and Los Angeles FC for a transfer to the MLS which is nearing completion.

Speculation mounts at Tottenham, hinting at Lloris’s imminent departure, and with the January transfer window set to open, an official confirmation is anticipated soon.
