Jamie Carragher reacts as Liverpool secure injury-time winner

Liverpool came from behind to secure all three points after they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday (9 December).

It took them 76 minutes to find an equaliser, but eventually, the goal came from Mohamed Salah and later Harvey Elliott scored in the 91st minute to win the tie for the Reds.

An interesting stat has emerged, courtesy of Andrew Beasley. He collected all the data of Liverpool’s wins under Jurgen Klopp in the extra time since he took charge of the club.

The stat shows that the Reds have secured their 16th injury-time winner following the win over Crystal Palace today.

Jamie Carragher took to X to share his reaction to the stat. He wrote, “That’s not luck!”

Spot on

People often tend to dismiss late goals as luck, but that is hardly the case when a team repeats such events regularly.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United made a habit of scoring late goals, and later it became popular by the name “Fergie time”.

To grab a winner in the injury time shows that the team has got energy to fight till the very end and their doughty refusal to give up under any circumstances.

That’s why Klopp hailed the team as “mentality monsters” and Liverpool are one of the contenders for the title this season. The players have developed certain characters, and the fighting spirit under him to fight until the final whistle.

It cannot be considered luck, and Carragher is absolutely spot on here. At Selhurst Park, Liverpool were far from their usual best and they struggled until Jordan Ayew was sent off. However, they found that extra bit of quality in the end to snatch all three points.
