Leeds United are showing keen interest in signing Bournemouth winger David Brooks in the January transfer window, according to a report from talkSPORT.
The Whites are likely to face strong competition from Championship outfit Southampton who are desperately in need to bolster their forward department.
The 26-year-old has struggled for regular games this season, having managed only two Premier League starts for the Cherries. It makes sense for him to move to the Championship and get some games under his belt.
In recent times, Leeds and Bournemouth have traded players among themselves. The likes of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra joined the Cherries while Jaidon Anthony moved to Elland Road.
Brooks will be keen to play for a club that will offer him regular game time as it will help him to get in proper shape before Wales’ crucial Euro 2024 play-off campaign in March.
Do Leeds really need him?
Both Leeds and Southampton are pushing to get into the Premier League and they would love to add a quality player to their ranks in January, someone who has loads of Premier League and Championship experience.
The Whites do have plenty of options in the form of Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto, Dan James and Anthony. Therefore it comes as a big surprise that the Cherries are looking at a new winger in the January window.
However, the situation could easily change if the likes of Summerville or Gnonto move out next month. While they haven’t agitated for a move away from Elland Road, Leeds could still cash in on the pair if they receive good value.
Otherwise, adding Brooks to an already stuffed area makes very little sense at the moment, although it is always advisable to add more quality to the side. Probably, Southampton need him more than Leeds at the moment.
