Liverpool set to reignite interest in Nicolo Barella

Liverpool are set to reignite their interest in Inter Milan midfield Nicolo Barella, as per a report from L’Interista.

Barella has grown in leaps and bounds since he arrived from Cagliari, winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, Italian Super Cup, as well as reaching the Champions League final last season. He has emerged as a key player for Simone Inzaghi’s side this season, featuring in 24 matches across all competitions.

Having tried to sign the Italy International in previous transfer windows, L’Interista reports that The Reds are back in contention for the midfielder. Along with Liverpool, other potential suitors for Barella include Chelsea, and Newcastle who are also also keen on acquiring the midfielder.

It was reported back in May that Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the player and that he was pushing the club to secure a deal for Barella.

The Nerazzuri are reported to be in negotiations over a contract renewal with Barella whose contract will expire in June 2026. Although the Italian side are in no rush to extend his contract, Inter stand the risk of losing him if a substantial amount is offered for Barella who is valued at €75m (£65m) by transfermarkt.

Will Liverpool get their long-term wish?

Liverpool missed out on primary midfield targets, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in what was a dramatic end to the transfer window as both players opted to join Chelsea.

Despite this, Liverpool’s midfield has become a focal point in the Premier League The Reds are currently leading the Premier League after successfully recouping Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister into their midfield.

Adding a player in the mold of Barella will add more firepower to Liverpool’s side and provide Klopp with the opportunity to utilize the player he has been longing for in the past transfer windows.

However, the primary focus must lie on signing a new central defender in the January window. Joel Matip is out injured and Klopp needs another top player. Also, the Reds could look for a new left-back as well.
