Manchester United have indicated concrete interest in Genoa defender, Radu Dragusin, according to Romanian publication, ProSports.
Dragusin has been tipped to make a switch to a top European club, after putting up world-class performances for Girona this season.
The likes of Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are all courting the Romania International over a possible transfer next summer. Pro sports report that United have already initiated contact for the former Juventus defender, and have launched what is tagged as the “Dragusin operation”.
Italian outlet, TuttoMercatoWeb previously reported that Genoa are intent on extending his contract, but will place a “gentleman’s agreement” if an offer of around £25m arrives. The reason for this new contract offer and “gentleman’s” clause is to avoid “torment and turbulence” as interest for the 21-year-old increases.
Dragusin, 21, signed for Genoa on a permanent deal last summer for £4.75m after spending last season on loan with the Italian club in Serie B, playing a pivotal role in Genoa’s promotion to the Italian top flight.
Dragusin-Martinez partnership
Erik Ten Hag needs a reliable centre-back to be the long-term partner to Lisandro Martinez when he returns from injury. With Raphael Varane facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, United are set to move for Dragusin who is viewed as a perfect fit for Ten Hag’s playing pattern.
Standing tall at 1.91 meters, Dragusin is a powerful and combative center-back, providing a commanding defensive presence and excelling in aerial duels. His physical attributes are well-suited to meet the high demands of the Premier League, making him a formidable threat to attackers in the league.
A possible partnership of Dragusin being right-footed and Martinez favoring his left foot could see Ten Hag play with a complementary partnership of two of the most combative centre-backs
However, the crucial factor is how quickly Dragusin will adapt to the technical and tactical side of the League as he is often found wanting in possession.
