Manchester United eye move for Mike Maignan

Manchester United are eyeing a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan who is yet to sign a new contract extension at San Siro, as per Foot Mercato

The Red Devils could face competition from the likes of European heavyweights like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, while Chelsea are also interested in signing him.

The 28-year-old wants to remain at San Siro but AC Milan have found it difficult to secure a new agreement for him. He has a contract at the Italian club until 2026 and it would take a fee in the north of £60m to prise him away.

Maignan is demanding a huge salary which reflects his growing stature and importance at the club.

Foot Mercato says that AC Milan want to keep the “world-class” French goalkeeper but at the same time, they could be forced to sell him if they cannot reach a new contract agreement.

Erik Ten Hag really likes him and he is not convinced by Andre Onana who joined in the summer on a big-money deal from Inter Milan.

No way

Onana has struggled to adapt at his new club but he is gradually improving. Ten Hag has shown full support to his goalkeeper and he believes that Onana will come good.

The Red Devils spent heavily on Onana during the summer, and it makes little sense to throw another £60m+ money on a new goalkeeper when they need reinforcement elsewhere.

Maignan is a quality goalkeeper, no doubt, but it seems that transfer talks are made to put pressure on Milan to hand him a new deal at the earliest.

United are currently seventh in the Premier League with 24 points, five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
