Matthew Upson drools over Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard

Arsenal have moved to the top of the Premier League table once again after they won 2-0 against Brighton on Sunday afternoon (17 December).

Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz sealed all three points for the Gunners who dominated the game from start to finish.

Matthew Upson was heavily impressed by Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard who produced a fantastic performance. In the 31st minute, the 25-year-old midfielder produced a superb pass to Bukayo Saka with the outside of his left boot.

Saka steered the ball in the path of Gabriel Martinelli who couldn’t keep the shot on target. Upson, who also works as a pundit for BBC Sport, was left amazed by Odegaard’s pass and said “wow” live on air (Premier League World Feed, 17 December, 31st min).

“That’s just exquisite from Martin Odegaard. Look at this. Outside of the left boot. wow! what a pass,” said Upson.

Top of the table

What a week it has been for Arsenal! Manchester City dropped points against Crystal Palace, and Liverpool also dropped points at home against Manchester United. It means, the Gunners now lead the table by just one point from the Reds, followed by Aston Villa in third.

Arsenal dominated the game and created plenty of opportunities. However, they couldn’t find the finishing touch in the first half, but ultimately got the much-needed goal from Jesus who was unmarked at the far post, and all he did was head home a free delivery.

The likes of Declan Rice and Saka were equally impressive, but Odegaard was pulling the strings from behind. He is a key player for Mikel Arteta’s side, and some of his passes were just top-class yesterday.

After losing 1-0 against Aston Villa, Arteta needed a strong performance at home, and he will be pleased with the performance and the result, although, at times, they failed to find the ruthless streak that Arteta had demanded.
