Arsenal cemented their position at the top of the Premier League after beating Wolves 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon (2 December).
The Gunners – who won 6-0 against Lens in the Champions League in midweek – scored two early goals through Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. However, Matheus Cunha pulled one back in the 86th minute and made it uncomfortable for Arsenal in the end.
Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu was taken off in the 79th minute and Arteta has provided an update. According to Goal, it seems like the 25-year-old defender has picked up a calf issue.
Arteta suggested after the game that Tomiyasu had “felt something”, and that’s why the club didn’t take the risk with him. This is the second game in a row where Tomiyasu couldn’t last the entire 90 minutes on the pitch.
“I don’t know, he felt something, I don’t know if it was fatigue, we decided to change straight away with him, we didn’t want to take any risk. Let’s assess how he is,” said Arteta after the game, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Impressive
Saka got the better of Craig Dawson and set the tone early in the game. The second goal was pure class where Odegaard finished a breathtaking team move involving Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus.
The likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Jesus all came close to finding the third goal that would have put the game beyond doubt with Martinelli hitting the outside of the post with a low shot.
The Gunners already boast the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League, but it was their free-flowing football exhibited on Saturday that caught the attention.
They probably should have scored more, but Arteta will happily take all three points.
