Newcastle United are “seriously interested” in signing VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in the January transfer window, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Germany journalist says that German giants Borussia Dortmund are not in the race to sign the 27-year-old striker who has been in scintillating form this season.
Premier League rivals Manchester United are heavily keen and could move for him next month. At the moment, no clubs have approached him, nor there is any negotiation going on for the player.
Bild journalist Christian Falk says that Guirassy has rejected a new offer from his club. Stuttgart have tried to remove the release clause from his contract, but as it stands, the striker is ready for the next step. He has scored 16 goals in the Bundesliga from 10 starts this season and could be set for a move in January.
Good move for Newcastle?
The Magpies need to sign several players in the January transfer window. The squad has been severely ravaged by injuries at the moment, and Eddie Howe is struggling to keep his players fresh at the moment.
Newcastle need to bolster their attacking department next month, but they cannot overspend at the same time.
Guirassy scored 14 goals in all competitions last season but he has taken his game to a whole new level this term. With Newcastle out of the Champions League now, they can focus purely on the league and this might help them to get into the top four at the end of the season, although it would be really tough.
The likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham are fighting for the fourth spot while Manchester United can join them as well if they put up a strong run from now on.
Guirassy could be a very good signing for the club, and he could arrive at a decent price.
