Paul Merson predicts score of Wolves v Everton

Everton will be looking to avoid their third defeat in a row when they face Wolves in the Premier League away from home on Saturday (30 December).

The Toffees have been in fine form under Sean Dyche lately but they are heading into this match on the back of two defeats in a row.

Everton were brilliant against Tottenham Hotspur but they still lost 2-1 with some of the decisions didn’t go in their favour. Likewise, the Toffees put up a strong fight against Manchester City, but in the end Pep Guardiola’s side earned a 3-1 win.

Paul Merson has predicted a 2-2 draw for this game. He thinks that both teams are playing decent football, and it’s hard to choose a clear-cut winner.

Merson said: “Wolves have had a good Christmas so I think this should be an interesting game with a handful of goals. They have some good players and have done really well to cope in the absence of Pedro Neto, who I believe is their main man. If Matheus Cunha could score a few goals, I think he could play for any team in the world as his dribbling ability and link-up play is top-notch.

“Everton should have got a result against Tottenham and pushed Manchester City to their limits earlier this week, indicating that both sides are playing some decent football heading into this one. That said, Sean Dyche’s side are just a point adrift of the relegation zone and need to get a result here.”

Relegation battle

After ten points were deducted, it was always going to be difficult for Everton to climb high up the table. It is more likely that they will flirt with a relegation battle once again, but they have shown more quality than any of the other sides that are in relegation zone at the moment.

Having said that, Everton are only two points above Luton Town, having played a game more. In fact, they could drop down in the bottom three easily. Still, it is expected that they will put a strong performance, as they have done under Dyche so far.

A victory away from home will give them a massive lift ahead of New Year.
