West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer could be set for exit in the January transfer window, according to journalist Santi Aouna.
The 27-year-old defender has been targeted by Ligue 1 club Rennes who are looking to buy him on loan next month.
The Footmercato journalist adds that there is lots of competition for the German defender, with French outfit Nice are also keen to land him.
Kehrer joined the Hammers in the summer of 2022 and has made 47 appearances in all competitions. He has struggled for regular games this season, and chances are high that he could be offloaded in January.
“Rennes is trying to get Thilo Kehrer on loan until the end of the season. Nice is also interested in the West Ham defender. Lots of competition in this file,” wrote Aouna on X.
Likely departure
West Ham are doing incredibly well although it comes as a real surprise that David Moyes’ future comes under speculation almost after every bad patch.
The Hammers are not in a position to compete with the top four at the moment, but they are constantly improving and getting better. They are doing extremely well in Europe and it looks likely that they will finish well within the top seven this season, which would be an incredible achievement.
West Ham are lacking depth in several areas of the pitch, especially the forward department. However, Moyes may need to offload some of their players to make room for new arrivals.
Kehrer joined last summer from Paris Saint-Germain. He is a versatile defender who can play as a centre-back or as a right-back. He made 38 appearances in all competitions last season, but never really produced stand-out performances for the club.
This season, Moyes has used him sparingly. He is yet to make a start in the Premier League, and all his four appearances have come from the bench. He may need to look for regular games and West Ham probably won’t stand in his way if he wants to move on.
