Sean Dyche blown away by Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Sean Dyche has showered heaps of praise on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana after he scored in the 2-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday (16 December).

The Toffees midfielder scored a fine header in the first half. Michael Keane added another shortly afterward to give the Toffees a healthy lead at the break.

In the second half, Everton did just enough to maintain the lead as they picked up all three points. Dyche was heavily impressed with his performance and hailed him as “terrific” after the game.

The Toffees have now managed four wins in a row in the Premier League, and five wins from their last six in the league this season.

“I thought Amadou [Onana] was terrific today, not just his goal but the ugly side of the game with his hard work and positional sense,” said Dyche, as quoted by Everton TV.

Massive win

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has made 13 appearances in the Premier League this season and bagged his first goal for the club. He has averaged 2.5 tackles per game this season and makes around 1.1 clearances.

Against Burnley, he won six ariel duels and managed 86.7% passing accuracy. Defensively, he managed two tackles and four clearances at Turf Moor, as per whoscored.com.

Onana is a dynamic midfielder and he is a player under Dyche. The Toffees would have been challenging for a place in Europe by now had they were not deducted ten points.

In the previous two seasons, Everton were fighting for survival in the Premier League, and it gave the impression that the squad was not good enough to compete at this level. Dyche has got the best out of his players and the results are evident.

Everton will face Fulham in the League Cup next in midweek before two crucial games against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the Premier League.
