Tottenham closely keeping tabs on Manu Kone

Tottenham Hotspur are closely following Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Manu Kone, as per transfer expert Rudy Galetti.

In response to a recent dip in form exacerbated by injuries and suspensions, Tottenham appear keen on fortifying their squad. The midfield, especially, emerges as a potential target for reinforcement, particularly with ongoing speculations surrounding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s departure from Spurs.

Following James Maddison’s lengthy injury, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are slated to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations at the beginning of 2024 making matters more complicated for Spurs in midfield.

Amidst this backdrop, Galetti reports that Tottenham are closely monitoring the 22-year-old who has been a standout performer for Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga this season. 

Along with Spurs, Premier League rivals, Liverpool are also in the race for the France u21 international. Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to indicate Interest in the midfielder.

Kone’s contract at Borussia-Park is set to run until June 2026 and the midfielder is currently valued at £30m by Transfermarkt.

Combative midfielder 

Koné has been causing ripples in the Bundesliga through his standout performances for Die Fohlen this season.

Standing at an imposing 6’1″, Koné combines his physical stature with remarkable speed and agility, enabling him to cover substantial ground on the pitch. This versatility allows him to make a significant impact both defensively and offensively.

Koné exhibits an assertive playing style, demonstrating fearlessness in executing tackles and a willingness to put his body on the line for the team. Noteworthy is his adeptness as a ball passer, coupled with an excellent work ethic. He manages 2.1 tackles and averages 87.7% passing accuracy, as per whoscored. 

Particularly exciting are his capabilities in possession retention which are adept qualities Ange Postecoglou demands from his side.

In comparison to his peers, Koné stands out favorably, with potential areas for improvement likely addressable through coaching and experience.

As the transfer market approaches, speculations connect Koné with a potential move away from Germany, and Tottenham emerges as an interested party. The alignment of his abilities with Tottenham’s dynamic playing style suggests Koné could be eyed as a fitting replacement in midfield, especially when Bissouma departs for the African Cup of Nations
