Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks to sign OGC Nice centre-back, Jean-Clair Todibo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spur’s head coach, Ange Postecoglou currently has limited centre-back options at his disposal. The 58-year-old has sometimes deployed full-backs as centre-back pairings notably in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City.
Following the return of Christian Romero from suspension, his defensive partner, Micky van de Ven has been ruled out until early next year after sustaining a hamstring injury. This has prompted Postecoglou to deploy Ben Davies in the position despite being a natural fullback.
With Spurs short of defensive options, Postecoglou has made clear his intention for new additions and Spurs has earmarked Todibo who is in formidable form for Nice as a potential option in defence.
Romano reports that Todibo is also prioritized by Manchester United, but Spurs have initiated contact with the player’s camp in recent weeks.

Spurs initiate contact
Todibo received his marching orders after being sent off in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Le Havre, leaving Nice five points behind Ligue 1 leaders, Paris Saint-Germain
However, the red card will not deter potential suitors as Todibo has consistently been a regular presence for Francesco Farioli’s side this season.
Todibo’s exceptional ball-playing skills make him a valuable asset for Postecoglou’s preferred build-up play. In addition to his technical prowess, he showcases remarkable leadership and possesses combative defensive capabilities, establishing himself as one of the toughest defenders to bypass.
At 23, Todibo presents a promising player with considerable room for improvement, and playing under the tutelage of Postecoglou will enhance his abilities as the Australian coach is renowned for remarkably transforming players. This can be seen evidently in the outputs of Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-Min, Richarlison, and Yves Bissouma.
Despite being under contract with Nice until 2027, there’s a growing sentiment that 2024 might mark the year Todibo considers new opportunities beyond French football and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could serve as his new home if he decides to leave.
