Earlier on Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur coach, Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Cristian Romero is out with an injury and will miss up to four or five weeks.
The 25-year-old sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory over Everton last Saturday, joining Micky van de Ven in the treatment table.
Spurs are now short of options at centre-back and are in dire need of reinforcements in January.
A recent report from TeamTalk revealed that Tottenham were interested in Chelsea’s defender Trevor Chalobah.
A move for the 24-year-old totally makes sense and comes at a critical time when Spurs are in dire need of defensive options.
Chalobah, a product of Chelsea’s renowned Cobham academy, boasts versatility as one of his standout attributes. He has demonstrated his adaptability by playing in various positions, including defensive midfield, right-back, centre-back, and left centre-back, showcasing the diverse skill set he developed at the academy.
Chalobah’s adaptability as a defensive midfielder provides valuable flexibility for Tottenham, especially given the potential shortages in that position. With Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr heading to the Africa Cup of Nations and uncertainties surrounding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future at the club, Chalobah’s versatility could help address potential gaps in the squad.
While his primary role is as a center-back, Chalobah’s ability to seamlessly transition between midfield and defense during a match makes him a valuable asset. This flexibility allows him to contribute similarly to Manchester City’s John Stones, making him a versatile and crucial player for Tottenham.
Considering injuries to Micky van de Ven and Christian Romero, Chalobah may play a significant role in shoring up Tottenham’s defense, showcasing his importance across different positions on the field.
Despite not featuring in any match this season due to niggling injuries, Chalobah still hasn’t lost his defensive touch. His qualities set him as one of the best young defenders in the League. Ange Postecoglou needs a quality defender and Tottenham must do everything to seal a move for the defender next month.
