West Ham eye move for Montpellier striker Akor Adams

West Ham are looking to bolster their forward department in the January transfer window and they have earmarked Montpellier striker Akor Adams, according to a report from The Sun

Signing a striker is a “top priority” for David Moyes in January although the Hammers boss has played down expectations of transfers.

The 23-year-old striker joined Montpellier in the summer and he has been a big hit for the French club so far, managing seven goals in 15 appearances.

Adams previously spent five years in Norway with second-tier Sogndal and top-flight side Lillestrom, where he was a prolific goalscorer. The Nigerian is a tall and powerful striker who is very good at finishing. He also works hard off the ball and could be a good fit for the Hammers.

Need for a striker in January

The Hammers signed Gianluca Scamacca on a big-money deal last summer but he proved to be a major flop. The Italian was sold to Atalanta this summer, and Moyes didn’t sign a proper replacement. Michail Antonio remains the lone striker at the club, while Jarrod Bowen often plays upfront in his absence.

Antonio has hurt his knee whilst on international duty with Jamaica but his injury is not thought to be serious. Nevertheless, the Hammers should look to bring in another striker who can compete with veteran Antonio for a regular starting role.

The Sun adds that any move for a new striker will depend in part on how quickly Antonio can recover. Both Bowen and Mohammed Kudus have scored goals for the club, but Moyes probably will need more quality upfront.

The Hammers are reportedly looking to offload a few players in January to raise funds for potential arrivals. The likes of Said Benrahma, Thilo Kehrer, Danny Ings, Ben Johnson, Aaron Cresswell, and Maxwel Cornet could be offloaded.
