Newcastle forward Miguel Almiron could be on the verge of leaving the club in the January transfer window.
According to transfer expert, Ben Jacobs, Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab have reached a “verbal agreement” to sign Almiron this month. However, they are yet to strike a deal with the player’s side at the moment.
The Guardian reported earlier this week that the Magpies could look for a fee of around £30m for the forward who turns 30 next month.
Almiron joined the Magpies in 2019 and has made over 190 appearances for the club, scoring 30 goals in all competitions.
“Understand there is now a verbal agreement between Al-Shabab and Newcastle for Miguel Almiron. However, Al-Shabab are yet to go to the player side,” wrote Jacobs on X.
Transfer makes sense
It makes sense for the Magpies to sell Almiron who is on £100k-per-week deal at the club. Not only, it will free up wages, but also Newcastle can recoup some money from his sale.
The Magpies are looking to create room to invest in new players while remaining within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR). There are suggestions that they may need to offload a few top players to balance the books.
The Paraguayan attacking midfielder has made 18 starts in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals. With the squad crippled with injuries, Eddie Howe could be tempted to keep him until the end of the season, but they may not get another glorious opportunity to recoup a handsome fee from his sale.
Likewise, Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has attracted interest from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Serie A club AC Milan. Even though the striker will turn 32 shortly, Newcastle have made it clear that the player is not for sale.
Kieran Trippier is being heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich who have seen two bids rejected for the player already.
