Arsenal could be looking to sign a striker at some point, possibly next summer, and they have been linked with a host of players already.
According to a report from The Athletic, the Gunners are admirers of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak who is seen as one of the Magpies’ most saleable assets.
The Gunners have lost their momentum a bit in the title race but they are expected to mount a strong challenge this season. While Mikel Arteta would love to sign a new striker, the club are cautious with their finances.
The Sweden international was a record signing for the Magpies, costing around £60m, and the Magpies are expected to demand a fee of around £100m, although Eddie Howe doesn’t have any plans to sell his most “valuable” player.
Despite struggling with muscle injuries this season, Isak, who plays mainly on the left but can also operate as a striker, Isak has managed 10 goals in the Premier League so far.
Isak would be a cracking signing for the Gunners
It is not just about scoring goals that makes Isak such a brilliant player to watch. His athleticism, pace, and technical ability make him a special player.
If Arsenal can spend big to sign him, they will get a player who is about to enter the prime years of his career. He is on £120k-per-week wages, and Arsenal shouldn’t have enough problems to match his wages.
The problem lies in reaching an agreement with the Magpies. If Newcastle fail to secure a top-four finish this season, they may have to sell some of their star players to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and Arsenal could fancy their chance.
Gabriel Jesus remains the first-choice striker at the club, but Arteta should be looking for an upgrade. Also there are concerns over the long-term future of Eddie Nketiah who is being linked with a move away from the club in almost every window.
