Aston Villa could be in hunt to sign Yannick Eduardo

Aston Villa need to sign a new forward in the January transfer window, and they could move for Yannick Eduardo, according to John Percy

The Telegraph journalist says that Villa need to sign new forward and right-back and possibly another attacking option as well next month. Villa have been punching above their weight and they have moved to second in the table, three points behind Liverpool.

Percy says that Eduardo could become a “surprise target” for Villa in the January window. The 17-year-old is a highly-rated young striker who has been doing well for the U-19 side.

He has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 13 games for the junior side this season.

“They have some scope for spending yet their hopes of signing a long-term Emery target, Nico Williams, are over after the winger signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao. A surprise target could be RB Leipzig attacker Yannick Eduardo,” wrote Percy.

Should Villa be looking for big names?

Villa have been brilliant this season under Emery and they have a fantastic chance to get into the top four this season. It still looks likely that Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal will fight for the Premier League title this season, but Villa are expected to stay in the hunt and grab the fourth spot at least. It won’t be easy though.

The likes of Tottenham and Newcastle are expected to sign a few players, and it will be a big mistake if Villa do not look to bolster their squad.

Eduardo looks like a cracking talent but should Villa be looking to sign one more quality striker? Ollie Watkins has been superb this season, but another experienced striker would have given them more depth in the second half of the season.

Watkins has scored nine goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League this season.
