Aston Villa submit official bid for Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa are keen to sign Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers and they have made an official bid to sign him, according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano

The 21-year-old has emerged as a “top target” for Villa this month, and the player is excited with the opportunity.

Writing for The Athletic, David Ornstein has also claimed that Rogers is a primary transfer target for Villa boss Unai Emery in the January transfer window.

Rogers joined Middlesbrough only six months ago, but he could be now open to joining Villa who are third in Premier League at the moment.

“Aston Villa have sent an official bid for Morgan Rogers at Middlesbrough. 2002 born talent considered Aston Villa top target for Unai Emery in the January window. Rogers, understood to be excited by this big opportunity,” wrote Romano on X

As of now, no agreement has been reached between the two clubs. Villa have just submitted an offer, but Boro are yet to respond.

Good signing?

Villa have surprised everyone this season by climbing to third in the Premier League. If they can add a few players to their ranks, they should be able to provide a strong challenge for the top four, and possibly could stay alive in the title race till the end.

Rogers started his playing career at West Brom but he moved to Manchester City in 2019. He is a versatile young forward who has spent loan spells at various clubs including Bournemouth, and Blackpool before making a permanent switch to Riverside last summer.

He has played against Villa earlier this season in the FA Cup. He has been deployed in multiple attacking positions by Michael Carrick this season for Boro, and Unai Emery can bring the best out of him as well.

Villa, however, may need to sell a few players before bringing in new players due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
