Atletico Madrid have discussed signing Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah

Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is on the radar of Atletico Madrid as the La Liga club look to recruit a defender before the January transfer window closes at 11 pm on Thursday, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues academy graduate has not played for seven months and is still recovering from a long-term hamstring injury.

However, Atletico have discussed Chalobah as an option as he is nearing a full recovery from his long injury lay-off.

Chelsea are willing to sell the 24-year-old as doing so represents pure profit in Financial Fair Play terms, but getting a deal done for him is currently considered expensive by the Spanish club.

They are already looking at other options but a move for the Chelsea star cannot be completely ruled out, especially during the summer transfer window.

Chalobah is out of contract in 2028 but is expected to be sold once the chance presents itself as he is not in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea are already looking to bolster their defensive ranks in the summer as Thiago Silva is expected to leave at the end of the current campaign.

Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aitor Paredes and his Benfica counterpart Antonio Silva have both been linked with the Stamford Bridge club, and more targets are expected to emerge in the coming months.

Chalobah played 63 games across all competitions over the last two seasons and established himself as a key player for Chelsea, but his injury has prevented him from shining this term and also getting a transfer move.

Bayern Munich, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and most recently Nottingham Forest have all shown interest in recruiting his services, but it appears he will be spending the second half of the season with the Blues.
