Newcastle United fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Bayern Munich are now close to withdrawing from the negotiations to sign Kieran Trippier, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Magpies have rejected three bids for the versatile full-back, the latest being a permanent offer of around £13m. However, after “new internal discussions” this morning (Wednesday, 24 January), Bayern Munich have decided that they will “no more” engage themselves in this race.
The Sky Germany journalist claims that Bayern do not plan to submit any more offers for the 33-year-old who is a key player under Eddie Howe.
As it stands, Bayern are not looking to do anything unreasonable, which means they are unlikely to come up with another bid for the player this month.

Good decision?
It would have made sense for the Magpies to accept the final offer from Bayern for Trippier. The offer was really good enough as Newcastle may not get another opportunity to sell the player on that amount in the future.
They are operating on a tight budget, and it would have made sense to sell Trippier when Bayern was willing to look for a permanent deal.
However, this is a strange season for them. They have been heavily plagued by injuries, and Trippier has been one of the key players for the club.
Losing him at this juncture of the season would have been a massive blow for the club. It appears that the deal is off, and Newcastle must prioritise bringing in one or two players before the end of the window.
