Chelsea alerted to the availability of Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson ahead of January transfer deadline

Chelsea are one of the clubs that have been alerted to the availability of Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson ahead of the January transfer deadline, according to the Evening Standard.

The Magpies are desperate to stay in line with Premier League profit and sustainability rules having spent around £400 million since their takeover by the Saudis in 2021.

As a result, Wilson has emerged as a sellable asset and Newcastle could do business for just £18m in the final week of the January transfer window.

The Blues are keen to bolster their attacking ranks having made Armando Broja available for sale as they weigh up their forward options.

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has emerged as their latest potential target, but Chelsea are reluctant to sign Karim Benzema because of his high wage demands.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is their top target ahead of the summer transfer, but a chance to land Wilson despite being a short-term solution to their attacking woes could be too good for Chelsea to turn down.

The 31-year-old has bagged 45 goals in 89 Premier League games for Newcastle and is one of the best strikers in the English top-flight and on the planet, with his minutes-to-goals ratio – 182 minutes per goal – one of the best in the world.

Chelsea have scored 35 league goals in 21 games this term, but only Manchester United (24) have scored less than them out of the teams currently ahead of them in the league table.

Even 10th-placed Newcastle (41) have scored more than them, and bolstering their striking options will go a long way this month as they look to finish in the top-six.

While they cannot splash the cash given their own Financial Fair Play concerns, signing Wilson for £18m is a huge steal, but they have to pip the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan to his services.
