Crystal Palace need to pay £20m to sign Adam Wharton

Crystal Palace have seen their £18.5m bid for Blackburn Rovers midfielder, Adam Wharton rejected, according to BBC.

The 19-year-old made his debut for Blackburn in August 2022 and has become an indispensable figure since then, making 44 appearances for the Championship outfit, before extending his contract at Ewood Park until the 2027-28 season.

Along with The Eagles, Newcastle United, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also reported to have indicated interest in the England u20 International.

Following the rejection of their £18.5m bid, Evening Standard reports that Blackburn are requesting at least £20m for Wharton, and also intend to retain him on loan until the rest of the season

After missing out on Kalvin Philips to West Ham United, The Eagles are now looking to bring him to Selhurst Park as a replacement for Cheick Doucoure who suffered a critical Achilles injury. Standard also adds that Roy Hodgson’s side have closely scouted Wharton who has become a key player for Blackburn, making 26 appearances under Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Turn around

Crystal Palace suffered from a complete dismantling from Arsenal as they lost 5:0 at the Emirates Stadium, putting summounting pressure on head coach, Roy Hodgson.

The Eagles currently occupy the 15th spot in the Premier League standings, five points above the relegation zone. They are currently on a disappointing run of results with only one win in their last 12 matches across all competitions. This run of results prompted protests from fans, questioning the club’s ownership.

Palace are trying to get things right and reinforcement is one of the necessary steps they’re taking to achieve a turnaround in form.

The South London Club are now looking to recoup Wharton to their squad this month and the youngster could follow the steps of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise who moved from the Championship to shine in the Premier League.
