West Ham striker Danny Ings is being targeted by Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Wolves, according to a report from Sky Sports.
Dharmesh Sheth claims (live blog, 10:46 am) that Southampton also looked at the possibility of signing Ings this month, but the 31-year-old striker wants to stay in the Premier League.
Ings, who is on £125k-per-week wages, still has a year left on his contract. However, he has failed to live up to the expectations that many had expected from him.
Sheth says that it is unlikely at the moment that Ings will be sold in the January transfer window following the injuries to Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio.
While Bowen is expected to return quickly, David Moyes is still likely to keep Ings with him at the moment.
Ings came on for the last 15 minutes of Sunday’s FA Cup 3rd round draw against Bristol City, and Moyes was pleased with his performance.
Should West Ham sell Ings?
The former Aston Villa striker has loads of Premier League experience and he is a natural finisher. But, he has been very poor since moving to London Stadium.
Last season, he managed only three goals in 22 games, and this season, he is yet to open his scoring account in the Premier League.
The centre forward has managed only one start in the league this season, and it’s clear that he doesn’t fit into Moyes’ system. If West Ham receive a decent offer for Ings, they should allow him to leave.
Sheth claims the Hammers have shown interest in Sunderland’s Jack Clarke and Ajax’s Steven Bergwijn but they are not close to completing deals for either of them.
Meanwhile, Lucas Paqueta could be out for six to eight weeks, and he must see a specialist. In that case, we could see the Hammers delving into the market to buy some players.
