Everton are one of the three clubs that are showing keen interest in signing Southampton striker Che Adams, according to a report from talkSPORT.
The Toffees, who are already appealing against a 10-point deduction for a previous charge, could face more punishment after they were charged for breaching league profit and substantiality rules on Monday.
In such a scenario, it is highly unpredictable whether the Toffees would at all be willing to make any new signings this month.
Sean Dyche has done incredible work so far and he will be happy if the board can allow him to sign one or two players. Alex Crook notes that Southampton have slapped a fee of around £6m for Adams, and several clubs including Wolves and Crystal Palace are also in the hunt to sign him.
Adams has a contract at Southampton until the end of the season, and the Toffees can get him at a bargain price. He has managed seven goals and two assists in 11 starts this season for the Saints, including four goals in his last five games. He is on £30k-per-week wages at Southampton, and it shouldn’t be a problem for the Toffees to match his salary.
Difficult times
The 27-year-old is a highly experienced striker who has loads of experience playing in the Premiership and Championship.
Everton are heavily reliant on Dominic Calvert-Lewin upfront, and another quality striker will add more depth to the side.
However, Everton’s resilience and fightback to avoid getting relegated could be shattered if they are docked more points. They should have been way up the table by now, but due to the ten-point deduction, they are battling for survival.
Another fresh point deduction will come as a devastating blow for the club, and it can have massive ramifications on the handover of ownership as well. Everton can only plan for the future after knowing the verdict from the Premier League.
Adams has been with Southampton since 2019 and has scored 39 goals in 170 appearances for them in all competitions.
