Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher claim Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best player in the Premier League right now

Liverpool are top of the Premier League table after 20 games in 2023-24, and there is no doubt that they boast of some of the best players in the land.

Gary Neville wanted to know who is the Premier League Player of the Season so far on the latest edition of the Football Overlap, and both Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher picked Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Although Roy Keane quickly pointed out that he still has issues with the defending of the Liverpool star, Wright leapt to his defence, reminding the former Manchester United captain that the England international is now more of a creator than a defender.

“I think Trent Alexander-Arnold would be near the top,” Carragher replied when Neville asked the question.

“With Liverpool being top, I would go with Trent,” Wright later came to a conclusion after nominating other players.

Alexander-Arnold has scored twice and assisted another three in 18 league games this term, and his transition to midfield has been impressive.

The 25-year-old has also weighed in with five assists across other competitions, and he has been responsible for the second-most through balls (18) and 113 crosses.

The Liverpool star has also created the second-most big chances (12) and created 49 chances after having created 71 chances last term.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has enjoyed the creativity and versatility of the Reds academy graduate, and opponents have largely struggled with how to contain his attacking threat.

While Mohamed Salah has been firing on all cylinders, TAA has been the creator-in-chief at Liverpool and will be favourites to emerge as PFA Player of the Year if the Anfield club end up winning the title.

He was voted PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month for December after emerging the winner from a shortlist of six players to take home the accolade.

The Liverpool vice-captain started in all six of the Reds’ league fixtures, bagging the winning goal in the dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over Fulham, providing assists against Sheffield United and Arsenal and helping his club keep three clean sheets in December.

Alexander-Arnold is currently injured and Klopp will hope Conor Bradley continues to impress in his absence following his display against Fulham.
