Leeds United are interested in a loan deal for Everton defender Ben Godfrey, according to a report from Teamtalk.
The Whites are looking to bolster the defence before the end of the transfer window. Ideally, they want to sign full-backs, but it appears they are looking to add a new centre-back as well.
AC Milan are among clubs keen to sign the 26-year-old defender who is on £75k-per-week deal at Goodison Park.
Everton are keen to sanction an outright sale rather than sending him out on loan. The Whites want a loan with an option to buy, but Everton do not prefer that at the moment.
Godfrey can also play on the right, so he can slot in the full-back role. He has struggled for regular game time this season, managing only 91 minutes of action in the Premier League.
Get him on board
Godfrey previously played under Leeds manager Daniel Farke at Norwich City so the duo can be reunited again.
He enjoyed some great spells for Everton but has dropped down the pecking order under Dyche. Make no mistake, he is a terrific defender who can play in multiple positions.
At the moment, Dyche doesn’t to break his centre-back partnership, and hence Godfrey could be sold if the Toffees get a good offer.
However, Leeds do have a chance to sign him if Godfrey decides to play somewhere else on loan to regain his confidence. He has loads of Premier League and Championship experience, and if he can stay injury-free, he can have a good opportunity to even impress his national team manager.
Godfrey has a contract at Everton until 2025, and there is no indication that the Toffees want to extend his deal at the club. The next few days could be really interesting, and a potential move to Elland Road cannot be completely ruled out, as yet.
