Joe Rodon has been enjoying his best football at Leeds United whilst on loan, and it is going from strength to strength at the moment.
The 26-year-old joined the Whites on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and he has cemented his position in Daniel Farke’s side. He has become a key player under Farke and was named the club’s Player of the Month for December.
According to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, Leeds “fans are desperate” to see the Whites sign Rodon permanently, but it won’t be easy. The reason is, that there is no clause in the original loan deal where Leeds can sign the defender permanently at the end of the season.
Of course, it makes sense for the Whites to sign him, but for that, they will have to negotiate separately with Spurs at some point in the future.
His performances for Leeds have been outstanding and it will increase his value. Football London claims that there have been talks that the Whites could look to strike an “early deal” to secure his signature permanently, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Promotion makes it easier
The Whites will look to get into the play-offs, if not qualify automatically, and if they manage to get into the Premier League next season, it will become easier for them to sign Rodon.
Moving into the Premier League will them a financial boost to have a shot at signing the Welshman in the summer transfer window.
Rodon himself is not too bothered about his future. He is enjoying his loan spell at the moment and probably will decide on what to do next in the summer, which makes sense for all the parties involved.
The Wales defender has made 24 appearances (started in 23 of them) in the Championship this season and has forged a strong partnership with Pascal Struijk at centre-back.
