Leeds United youngster Archie Gray has signed a new contract at Elland Road that will keep him at the club until 2028.
Phil Hay wrote on X that Gray is a “hugely talented” player and that getting him on a new deal is “big news” for Leeds.
The 17-year-old is seen as one of the brightest young talents to have come up out of the club’s academy, and Leeds have wasted no time tying him up on a long-term deal.
He has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign this season under Daniel Farke, making 28 appearances in all competitions.
The midfielder’s previous deal was set to expire in 2025. However, he has now committed his future to his boyhood club.
“Archie Gray has agreed a new contract with Leeds United. Runs to 2028 and will replace a previous deal which was due to expire in 2025. Hugely talented, and big news for the club,” wrote Hay.
Big news for Leeds
Hay wrote for The Athletic that Gray is the “jewel” in the crown at Leeds and he is one of the most exciting talents to have come out of the academy in many years.
There is a feeling at the club that he has the potential to go to the very top of the game.
He was selected for his first Premier League game at the age of 15 which shows what a talent he is. He has also progressed through the England youth ranks, and the club have done everything right here in providing him with a new contract.
The Daily Mail reported online (10 November 2023) that Premier League side Liverpool were preparing a bid for the youngster worth around £40m. After this new contract, Leeds will be in a better position to negotiate a deal for Gray even though they won’t be keen to sell him at all.
Leeds are fourth in the Championship at the moment and they are aiming a swift return to the Premier League next season.
