Leeds United have rejected a loan bid for defender Charlie Cresswell last week, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
The 21-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at Elland Road, and he could be on his way out of the club this month. However, Leeds have no intention of sending him away on loan, rather they will look for a permanent transfer.
Recently journalist Beren Cross wrote on Leeds Live that Millwall and several other clubs have made formal offers to sign Cresswell, but the offers are not close to Leeds’s valuation of the player.
Witcoop says the Whites have made their transfer stance clear – the player won’t leave the club in January on loan.
“Leeds would rather sell than loan out Charlie Cresswelll. Turned down loan offers from Millwall for the defender last week to make their stance clear,” Witcoop wrote on X.
Interesting situation
Cresswell is a highly talented young defender who has progressed through the youth ranks at the club. He enjoyed a fruitful loan spell last season, and wants to play regularly for the senior side.
However, Daniel Farke has other plans. Currently, Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk are the first-choice options for Daniel Farke. Liam Cooper is still an influential figure at the club, which means Cresswell is the fourth-choice defender at Leeds.
There have been suggestions that Cooper could be sold at some point next season. In that case, it makes sense for the Whites to keep Cresswell and groom him properly if they think he’s good enough at this level.
Leeds do not need any central defender this month, rather they are focusing on adding full-backs, following the departures of Luke Ayling and Djede Spence.
However, if any potential suitor comes up with a lucrative offer, then Leeds will allow Cresswell to leave. But, there won’t be any loan move for the young defender.
