Premier League transfers are not dominated by incomings this January as clubs are wary of falling foul of the league’s spending rules. Instead, they are looking to sanction departures before attempting to sign new players to comply with the regulations.
Below we look at some of the biggest players in the English league who could be axed before the end of the transfer window.
Casemiro
Casemiro joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022 after spending almost a decade at Real Madrid, where he won three La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies.
The experienced midfielder was impressive in his debut campaign but his involvement has been limited to only eight league appearances this season due to injury issues.
Casemiro still has over two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, but United are reportedly plotting to offload their highest earners, with the Brazilian on £375,000 per week wages.
Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are said to be keen on him and a good offer could convince the Red Devils to let him go.
Kieran Trippier
Kieran Trippier’s future has recently been a subject of great speculation amid interest from Bayern Munich.
Manager Thomas Tuchel is in the market for a new right-back and he believes the 33-year-old to be a perfect fit.
But the Magpies are unwilling to lose the England international and have rejected two offers, including their latest €15 million bid.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, the Bavarians are set to make one final offer for the experienced full-back, and that could change Newcastle’s stance regarding their player.
Callum Wilson
Callum Wilson is another Newcastle player who has been linked with an exit from the Premier League this month.
The Magpies have turned down a loan offer from Atletico Madrid, insisting they won’t let the striker leave in the middle of the season.
However, 31-year-old’s contract is set to run out in the next 18 months, and they could be tempted to sell him while he has some resale value.
Wilson was a key member of Eddie Howe’s side last term when they finished fourth in the Premier League table. And despite injuries, he has registered 14 top-flight appearances this campaign, scoring seven goals.
