Tottenham considering move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Chelsea’s midfielder, Conor Gallagher this week, as per Jacob Steinberg.

Spurs have been the most proactive side in the winter transfer window, swiftly finalizing their deals.

They have completed the signing of former Chelsea striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig on a six-month loan deal, which includes a €17 million buy option.

Additionally, Spurs have confirmed the €30 million transfer of Romanian international Radu Dragusin. The north London giants have been heavily linked with a move for Gallagher this month, and they could make a late move.

Chelsea were open to selling the 23-year-old last summer, placing a £50m price tag for the midfielder. However, the valuation was deemed too high for Tottenham.

The England International’s contract is set to expire in June 2025. Gallagher is on £17k-per-week deal at Stamford Bridge, and with just 18 months remaining, there is no sign of a contract extension for the midfielder at Stamford Bridge, and Tottenham are set to make a swoop for the midfielder this week.

The 23-year-old has been an integral core of Chelsea’s midfield this season, featuring in 28 matches across all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season.

“Tottenham are considering a move for Conor Gallagher this week. Chelsea midfielder is out of contract in 18 months and no sign of a new deal yet. Chelsea wanted at least £50m for him last summer, though, and that was too high for Spurs,” wrote Steinberg on X.

Explosive transfer window

Tottenham have a sustained interest in Gallagher, identifying him as a fitting successor for the potentially departing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Although Gallagher has expressed his inclination to stay at his childhood club, the Blues are receptive to offers for the England International, with Tottenham showing keen interest in the player.

Bringing Gallagher on board could inject added vigour and defensive stability into the midfield. With a commendable Premier League track record, the Chelsea midfielder is viewed as a fitting addition to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The reported £50m price tag could be deemed justifiable given Gallagher’s exceptional tenacity, similar to Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

Chelsea’s purported intention to raise funds for signings is reportedly fueling their willingness to sanction Gallagher’s departure.

Despite reports indicating Gallagher’s preference to remain at Stamford Bridge, his primary focus is securing regular first-team opportunities, leading to uncertainty surrounding his future amid Chelsea’s contemplation of selling him.

The addition of Gallagher would complete an excellent winter transfer window for Spurs who are looking to add adequate mercenaries to fight for Champions League places next season.
